Assalamualaikum Everyone,
At the beginning of this week we had to work on speeches. Because this term for week 3 we needed to present our speeches because this was an opportunity because at the end of the year or in important moments we would need to be giving a speech and what a great time to practice now.
We had different types of speeches for e.g. Rap, Spoken Word, Flash Talk and prepared speech. I decided that I wanted to do spoken word which was like rap but without the beat at the back. We needed to make sure that it rhymed and it made sense and the topic was around whenua.
Our topic for our speeches was Whenua ( Land ). Our teacher had told us that this was our topic and our speeches needed to be around the topic whenua. Only the senior school had to create speeches and then at the end of week 3 term 3 we needed to have a completed speech and people who was going to present their class and there would be judges who judge our speech’s and that means people needed to be focused and locked in.
For my speech I talked about my whenua ( Which is Tuvalu ). Here is my speech.
Tuvalu is sinking and it’s not fair. The water keeps rising but does anyone really care?
Tuvalu is sinking more each day, the sea is rising, washing us away. We love our island, it is our place, but now it’s disappearing without a trace. The sea is coming, the sky turns grey, and more of Tuvalu fades away.
Tuvalu is a place I call home, where seas and islands roam, where the coconut trees stand tall, and the waves sing softly and call. I walk through the warm, soft sand. This place is called my land. Somedays the tides get high, but we know it’s not goodbye. We plant and water day by day, waiting for more roots to grow, create, and stay. I love Tuvalu, small but strong, hearts filled with more to long for.
With the wind as our friend and guide. We dance to fatele’s feet in sand, clapping hands like a marching band. My grandma still weaves with her head held high, while the water keeps rising, but so do I. Tuvalu stands not just on maps or lines, but in hearts, in stories, in chants and signs. We are the sunrise on the ocean’s face; we are warriors wrapped in gentle grace. So when you speak of my home, speak with care. Because Tuvalu is not just there; Tuvalu is everywhere.
And then on Thursday Week 3 Term 3 we had to nominate people to represent our class and I was one of the three that got nominated to represent our class. We needed to say our speech in front of the whole senior school classes. When it was my turn I started to tremble and get nervous. Then I forgot my speech because I started getting nervous. Then I got the courage to say some sentences from my speech. But that was all we did for our speech.
Thank you for reading my blog I hope you have a great rest of your day / week and remember to spread the gospel.
