Explanation Writing : A Good Friend

Assalamualaikum Everyone,

For our writing assessment we wrote about a good friend and the expectations of a good friend. We were basically explaining what a goof friend means because this was an explanation writing and in the word it says explanation which means explain. We were only allowed 40 minutes to write what a good friend means to you. And within this 40 minutes we had to brainstorm and write our writing piece. When writing this I was able to think about my good friend which was my cousin and most of the sentences were dedicated to her because she was always there not just for me but for a lot of people. 25. Why Social Media Affects Us: Understanding Its Influence

As you can see from the I’m going to be discussing a little bit about why social media can affect us or our everyday lives. Social Media is a huge topic to write about. How ? Well because Social media has a positive side and a negative side. Most people think that  Social is a  positive platform to use but the thing they do not know is that they also have a huge negative side.

What we did for our writing !

For our writing we were doing an explanation writing because our teacher wanted us to explain the reason why we think social media is bad for us. Our teacher gave us an example of a piece of explanation writing that  one of our classmates had written about ( which was about social  media writing ).  When we were done with writing our piece of writing we had to send it to our teacher  so she was able to mark  our writing and give us some suggestions (  She marked it like she would if  this was our writing assessment ). Her doing this was really helpful because I got to see what I needed help with and what I could improve from her suggestions.

If you saw my writing well you saw that see gave me 6  suggestions to help with my work and I used those suggestions to correct my writing.

Conclusion !!

In conclusion, being able to do this activity was enjoyable because it taught us the negative and positive affects of social media.

25. Tides: A Clear Explanation of Ocean Movements

Talofa Lava Everyone,

This week for literacy we had to do an explanation piece of writing about tides. Well there are many types of different things that you could write about tides for e.g. how tides are caused or how they move. In this explanation we had to make sure it was a perfect piece of writing because our teacher told us that this piece of writing could give us an example of how the topic or information could be used in our actual writing assessment. She was trying to prepare us for the writing assessment so that we could do very well in the assessment.

Tides are a huge topic to talk about because there are many interesting facts about the tide and being able to write about tides were interesting because when writing about this I also learnt more new things when reading information about tides.

Explanation Writing Favourite Dish .25

This week we got given a task by our teacher ( Whea Lorraine ) to do an explanation writing on our favourite dish that we love. We chose which dish we wanted to write about to our teacher and why we chose it. I had to plan what I was going to pick and I decided to pick Kopai. I picked this dish because it came from Tuvalu which is where I come from and so is this dish. Kopai is a dish that has a lot of soup and its colour is white and it has bread that goes into the soup and you would think its raw but actually it is cooked perfectly. But we needed to make sure that we had questions to answer otherwise our explanation writing is going to be boring and maybe not that descriptive about the food we are talking about. Then we had to create a doc and then explain why we chose this and the 5 w’s ( Where, When, Why, How, What ) but we also had to ask other questions.  Here are some of my questions.

  1. What is your Favourite dish ?
  2. Do you eat it often?
  3. Why did you choose it?
  4. What Island / Country did it come from?
  5. Is it sweet or salty?
  6. What are the ingredients to make these??

These are my questions for my favourite dish. I will add my work here. There is also a picture on the doc that shows you what it looks like.
