25. Te Aro Pa – Reading

Kia Orana Everyone,

Happy Cook Island Language Week 🇨🇰 !!

This week for reading we have been given the task to learn about a place called Te Papa located in Wellington. We needed to read a book about how Maori life was way back in history in the 1800’s into the 1900’s. After reading about this book and how the Maori life was back in the days we got allocated to create and design a DLO. In our team we all discussed that we should create one DLO so it makes us stress free and we can all rely on each other to do some work and participate. Here is some understanding about the book.

Te Aro Pā was a Māori village long ago in Wellington. It was near the water and used for fishing, trading, and meeting other people. The Māori who lived there were part of local tribes.

Today, even though the city has changed, we still remember Te Aro Pā because it teaches us about Māori history and culture. Archaeologists have found old tools that show how people lived there.

Learning about places like Te Aro Pā helps us understand how important the land and sea were to Māori people. It also reminds us to respect and protect these special places for the future.

We also made a DLO so here it is.

Thank you for reading my blog and remember to comment if you have any suggestions or recommendations and remember to spread the gospel.

25. Speech’s

Assalamualaikum Everyone,

At the beginning of this week we had to work on speeches. Because this term for week 3 we needed to present our speeches because this was an opportunity because at the end of the year or in important moments we would need to be giving a speech and what a great time to practice now.

We had different types of speeches for e.g. Rap, Spoken Word, Flash Talk and prepared speech. I decided that I wanted to do spoken word which was like rap but without the beat at the back. We needed to make sure that it rhymed and it made sense and the topic was around whenua.

Our topic for our speeches was Whenua ( Land ). Our teacher had told us that this was our topic and our speeches needed to be around the topic whenua. Only the senior school had to create speeches and then at the end of week 3 term 3 we needed to have a completed speech and people who was going to present their class and there would be judges who judge our speech’s and that means people needed to be focused and locked in.

For my speech I talked about my whenua ( Which is Tuvalu ). Here is my speech.

Tuvalu is sinking and it’s not fair. The water keeps rising but does anyone really care?

Tuvalu is sinking more each day, the sea is rising, washing us away. We love our island, it is our place, but now it’s disappearing without a trace. The sea is coming, the sky turns grey, and more of Tuvalu fades away.

Tuvalu is a place I call home, where seas and islands roam, where the coconut trees stand tall, and the waves sing softly and call. I walk through the warm, soft sand. This place is called my land. Somedays the tides get high, but we know it’s not goodbye. We plant and water day by day, waiting for more roots to grow, create, and stay. I love Tuvalu, small but strong, hearts filled with more to long for.

With the wind as our friend and guide. We dance to fatele’s feet in sand, clapping hands like a marching band. My grandma still weaves with her head held high, while the water keeps rising, but so do I. Tuvalu stands not just on maps or lines, but in hearts, in stories, in chants and signs. We are the sunrise on the ocean’s face; we are warriors wrapped in gentle grace. So when you speak of my home, speak with care. Because Tuvalu is not just there; Tuvalu is everywhere.

And then on Thursday Week 3 Term 3 we had to nominate people to represent our class and I was one of the three that got nominated to represent our class. We needed to say our speech in front of the whole senior school classes. When it was my turn I started to tremble and get nervous. Then I forgot my speech because I started getting nervous. Then I got the courage to say some sentences from my speech. But that was all we did for our speech.

Thank you for reading my blog I hope you have a great rest of your day / week and remember to spread the gospel.

25. Civil Engineering

WALT : Why did we build the bridge.

Kia Ora Everyone,

This week for engineering we learnt more about civil engineering. We focused on the topic of civil engineering. Last week we focused on structural engineering ( For that blog  check my blog posts and it should be there ).

We did this activity because it shows the different types of way people work and how they do their work and sometimes how difficult it could be.

For our first activity we needed to pour the water from one bucket to the other but the bucket that the water  was  being poured into had a hole in it. So then we had to think of a solution on how to keep the water  from spilling everywhere out of the bucket. Then our instructor ( Whaea Ruth ) told  us  that we needed  to go around the cone that is across from us to  make sure all of our team went together around the cone and whoever’s team had the most water by the end of the activity won and probably get a point.

For our second activity we needed to build a firm border or wall to protect Tuvalu from flooding even more. We had some clay, tape, paper, scissors, straws and ice block sticks. Our team tried to discuss some ways we can build the wall because we all had different ideas and we needed to come up with one so we can build the wall. Our team decided to cut the straws into quarters and then put the clay onto the paper and then make the clay into a squared shape. Then we would add the sticks on the clay and make sure that they had a firm foundation to stand onto. The clay was not that a firm enough foundation for the straws to stand up but then the time was up and we needed to bring our creations onto the mat and then we would discuss who would take it to their class and work on it. Luckily my team was all in the same class. But that was all we did for engineering.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day / week and remember to spread the gospel.

25. Bridges And Beyond

Merhaba Everyone,

Every Wednesday we have engineering, its where real engineers come to our school and teach us more about engineering and some ways that engineers do throughout their day to day life when constructing. This week for engineering we had some other ways of how people work as engineers.

Our instructor for this session was called ( Whaea Ruth ) she was a designer on constructing the bridge she was the one that made the designs. Her job is important because if she made a mistake in the diagram that she created then the bridge would be wonky or not stable.

For our first activity we had to make the tallest tower out of jenga blocks but we needed to get into groups of 3 – 4 people. Then whoever had the tallest tower would have a point and whoever has the most points at the end of the last engineering session the person with the most points would get rewarded with a reward but we don’t know what that reward is.

For our tower we needed to think and then we used the tin that the jenga’s came out of. Then we put the jenga blocks onto the tin and then we started stacking the blocks on just like how we would make the jenga tower but we didn’t use three to stack it we used two so then we would have more blocks to use. After we got told to stop and leave our creations and sadly we did not win the first round.

Then for the second activity we needed to do the same thing as the first activity but underneath the tin or on the floor we needed to have the scrunched tea towel then stack the jenga blocks just like the first activity.

Then for our last activity we needed to design a bridge out of cardboard and tape. But we had a limit of cardboard and it was only 8 pieces of cardboard. Then we started to discuss as a group how we were going to create our bridge.

I enjoyed looking at other peoples bridges and how they had a different understanding of how they can create bridges. I really enjoyed creating our bridge because we all got to cooperate in different ways.

Some things I found difficult was having to participate in creating the bridge because me and my teammates all had various ways on how to make our bridge. But I really enjoyed doing civil engineering. Here are some pictures of what we did.

This is our bridge that we created. There were some poles at the bottom that  created the bridge stable.

And this was our attempt at trying to get the tallest tower with the scrunched tea towel. ( We also won this round ).

Thank you for reading my blog I hope you have a good rest of your day and remember to spread the gospel.

Pedal Safe, Stay Safe

Hello Everyone,

This week we have been learning about bike safety and how we can be affected by the dangers of not following bike safety.  To do this activity we needed to know some bike rules. Firstly we needed to know how to wear a helmet properly. To make sure that you wear a helmet safely you need to make sure that you have a helmet that fits your head or else if you chose a large size then when you ride your bike and you fall off then the helmet will just fall off your head and save its self well your head gets fractured because the ground broke your head.

We also made a DLO and you can take a look at my DLO it will be down here for you to see.

Canva Link

And that was all we did for our bike safety. I hope that my information can help you with how to put on your helmet the right way. Also why its important to wear helmets.

Thank you for reading my blog I hope you get good luck and remember to spread the gospel.

Engineers Of Tomorrow

Annyeonghaseyo, everyone 👋,

On Wednesday of week 1 of term 3, we did some learning around structural engineering and how it helps people throughout their daily lives. First a team of different types of engineers introduced themselves to us. Then we got to know their names and what kind of engineers they are. It was cool to learn about what they do and how they help others.

So we had different stations that had different ways on how we can use structural engineering. There was a large bridge in front of all of us, and we all wondered what we were going to do with the bridge. The activities were trying to make the biggest paper tower out of paper, and we had a limit of how much tape we got, but we didn’t have a limit for how much paper we could use.

There was also an activity about trying to make a tower out of chopsticks. It was challenging for them because the table kept on wobbling, so they decided that they would create their towers on the floor since it’s less wobbly. There was also a bridge being built; it was like a real bridge but miniature. They didn’t have to build the bridge; they just had to connect some wires because the wires made the bridge look like a real bridge. And that was most of what we did for engineering.

Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day, and remember to spread the gospel ✝.

25. Papakura High School Performance

Talofa Lava Everyone,

Some Students from Edmund Hillary School, Papakura intermediate, Calvin Road, Kererū Park and Papakura High School were given an opportunity to perform their dances on stage in front of the schools. Our school did a Kapa Haka performance and a Samoan performance. I was in the Samoan dance our instructor was one of the teachers and her name was Telesie. She was Samoan so she taught us a dance that we did for our performance at high school.

The highlight from the  schools performing was when we got to eat the sausages sizzles but my other highlight was when we got to see the high school kids do their Kapa Haka and their Haka because it was amazing to see them represent their culture loud and proud. And all of the other performances were cool to watch because of the way they get to represent their culture in different ways whether it’s in dancing or singing or their actions. We also had an MC speaker whose name was Romeo.

There were some exciting activities that the people set up. There was a kind of guess how much lollies there is in the jar but actually you needed to answer the question which was “What does Financial Literacy mean to you”. And the students from our school had a go and in the end 2 of our students won the prize and they decided to split the lollies between themselves but they also shared with the others.

After all of the performances there was a sausage sizzle and all of the schools could have one each or more if they wanted more. Some of us also brought some lunch so we could eat the sausage sizzle and then our lunch. We had a nice feast. Then Romeo entertained us with his voice he sang to the kids and the family and the people inside his voice were majestic he sang hallelujah and monsters.   And then for the last activity for the performance Romeo told all of us that we had to walk down the cat walk ( Which is where you walk down this run way and pose if you want to ).  And that was all we did for the performance and what I saw and did.

Thank you for reading my blog I hope you have a great rest of your day / week and remember to spread the gospel with everyone ✝.

25. Weekly Recap

Bula Vinaka Everyone,

This week we have been learning about prime numbers and composite numbers. For me to learn about this is a bit easy because I can identify the difference between these two words and their numbers and other things associated with it. You may be thinking that we don’t know how to do these. Well we finished a test and it shows that I know my prime and composite numbers better than I thought. And that is what we are working on for maths.

For writing we made 4 different DLO’s about a place and some important people. It was cool to learn about them and how they are famous and what they did because it was amazing learning about others and their strengths. If you want to learn more about that then go to my other blog post and take a look at my DLO’s that I created. Because there is a whole blog post dedicated to all of my biographies. So go on and check that out after.

And for reading we read about the Maori Battalion. The Maori Battalion is important and should not be forgotten because it is important to our land and how we treat it and how we can help it. And that was all we did last week.

Thank you for reading my blog I hope you have a good rest of your day and remember to spread the gospel 🔥.

25. Biography DLO

WALT : Make DLO’s about the 4 topics on the board.

Sawadee Everyone,

This week our teacher has assigned us to make 4 DLO about these important people and important moments. The first one was Sir Edmund Hillary. We needed to write a DLO about him and what he is famous for and what he did to become famous. Sir Edmund Hillary was the first ever person to climb Mount Everest. There was many facts about Sir Edmund Hillary that we found. In this certain task I worked with two other people Susana and Danielle we all came up with very good ideas about what Sir Edmund Hillary had history with. This is what it turned out to be. Click the link down below to have a sneak peak.

Susana, Sala – Sir Edmund Hillary

For my second one I did a Matariki one because it is Matariki very soon. Our teacher made all the decisions with the students helping pick what topics and people and things we could make DLO’s about. My Matariki one is on a google drawing and I completed it all by myself. I learnt more about Matariki the more I wrote about my DLO’s. Click the link down below to see my work.

Sala – Matariki

For my third I did Sir Bom Gillies. This man is famous for being the last soldier that survived during the 28th Maori Battalion. He was a good man known for his deeds and what he did for his land. He fought hard trying to fight for his land so they were able to live in freedom. I made another DLO about him so here is the link that you need to press and you will be able to read some facts about him.

Sala – Sir Bom Gillies

And that was all I did I didn’t have enough to make the last one but he is a great story writer and his name is Maurice Gee. If I had more time I definitely would have made a DLO about all of his books because they seem interesting and I would read them myself. And if you liked my DLO’s then I will probably make more and you could be able to read them and learn more interesting facts about the person or event I wrote about.

Thank you for reading my blog I hope you have a good rest of your day / week and remember to spread the gospel 🔥.

25. Ice Sensation

Hello Everyone,

A few weeks in the early weeks of term 2 we did an experiment with ice. We needed to use our five senses to describe how we felt the ice in the palms of our hands. We needed to write a descriptive writing of how we felt about the ice. I enjoyed writing about the ice because it was interesting of the ideas that came up in my mind and what I could have written about. I talked about being in a forest and other things that live in a jungle or forest.

I will add my story down here for you to read.
